ABOUT THE POSITION:

Empower Students. Support Families. Strengthen Communities. Join OCOs Education Services team as a Community Schools Advocate and make a lasting impact by helping students and families overcome barriers to this role youll collaborate with schools and community partners to promote student attendance facilitate life skills parent engagement activities and connect families with vital resources. JOB SUMMARY:

Works collaboratively with school district and community partners to provide direct services to students and families. Coordinates and facilitates a variety of activities. Works closely with the Community School Resource Coordinator to fulfill project objectives. Carries out duties in accordance with Agency and Program policies and procedures.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides the teaching and coaching of social-emotional learning life skills and parenting; facilitates education and support groups as assigned.
  • Monitors student attendance and follows-up on absenteeism including home visits.
  • Organizes and facilitates parent engagement activities.
  • Arrange for and support community guest speakers and field trips as requested.
  • Provides crisis intervention supportive counseling advocacy and solution focused decision making for students and families.
  • Works in collaboration with other service providers to engage consumers and assist them in connecting to needed services.
  • Informs consumers of available services in the community and assists with referrals to services.
  • Attends internal and external meetings as assigned and assists in meeting facilitation as required.
  • Communicates pertinent information to co-workers supervisors and community partners as instructed.
  • Completes all documentation as required including electronic records.
  • Acts in a leadership role represents the agency to community partners and oversees program specific functions as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have a desire to work with individuals and families and has a thorough understanding of the family development process and the OCO Service Delivery system.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work with others in a warm non-judgmental manner and be a positive role model.
  • Must be able to facilitate curriculum and effectively lead groups.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated resourceful organized and adaptable in carrying out job duties
  • Must be familiar with the geographical layout of the county and have knowledge of human service resources in the county
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and have excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Must possess skills for complex data entry and have the ability to read and interpret complex information and manipulate data.
  • Must work cooperatively with co-workers supervisor school personnel students parents and community partners.
  • Must be able to direct the work of others set priorities and problem solve.
  • Must exhibit professionalism good judgment and maintain strict confidentiality with regard to client information.
  • Must exhibit a detailed knowledge of regulations services rights and responsibilities for the population served.
  • Must have the ability to work with populations with special needs including those that may exhibit aggressive behaviors.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule in order to meet the needs of the program.
  • Must have acceptable health to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have a valid NYS Drivers license with driving record within policy and access to a properly insured reliable vehicle for regular travel and transporting consumers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a Bachelors Degree in Education or Human Services area; and
  • Must have 1 to 3 years experience with children youth families or a special population; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education experience and training.
