QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working in a special educational setting.
- Must be highly qualified with a minimum of 2 years of college or have passed the Para Pro Test.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To implement IEP of special education students
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work under the direction of the cooperating teacher administration and Pupil Personnel Director.
- Is flexible in assigned duties.
- Is capable of a reasonable amount of lifting
- Assists student with all specialists in providing support and discipline as needed.
- Assists the student to whom assigned in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off of outerwear moving from room to room and using lavatory.
- Hears the student in recitation reading and other curriculum tasks guiding and helping them but not teaching them.
- Performs simple errands and tasks for student such as sharpening pencils carrying lunch trays and the like.
- Under supervision of the special education teacher and lead teacher works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Accompanies the student to whom assigned when trips to the office or to the school nurse are necessary.
- Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
- Serves as a resource person if and when requested to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
- Has knowledge of proper restraint techniques.
- Assists in scheduling of evaluations TEAM meetings and annual reviews.
- Serves students with context of the classroom (inclusion).
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by teachers and/or the building principal.
