Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working in a special educational setting.
  • Must be highly qualified with a minimum of 2 years of college or have passed the Para Pro Test.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To implement IEP of special education students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work under the direction of the cooperating teacher administration and Pupil Personnel Director.
  2. Is flexible in assigned duties.
  3. Is capable of a reasonable amount of lifting
  4. Assists student with all specialists in providing support and discipline as needed.
  5. Assists the student to whom assigned in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off of outerwear moving from room to room and using lavatory.
  6. Hears the student in recitation reading and other curriculum tasks guiding and helping them but not teaching them.
  7. Performs simple errands and tasks for student such as sharpening pencils carrying lunch trays and the like.
  8. Under supervision of the special education teacher and lead teacher works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  9. Accompanies the student to whom assigned when trips to the office or to the school nurse are necessary.
  10. Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
  11. Serves as a resource person if and when requested to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
  12. Has knowledge of proper restraint techniques.
  13. Assists in scheduling of evaluations TEAM meetings and annual reviews.
  14. Serves students with context of the classroom (inclusion).
  15. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by teachers and/or the building principal.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Per ESP Contract
