Who are we looking for

Are you an experienced educator with a passion for supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Do you understand the difference between mainstream teaching and working with high needs learners in a classroom setting

At Peterborough GAPS we deliver tailored education to young people with a range of complex needs including global developmental delay Down syndrome dyslexia autism ADHD severe learning difficulties and social communication challenges. Our learners work at a slower pace and often require additional support with communication and emotional regulation.

We are currently seeking a Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver Entry Level 13 and Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills English in small group settings (up to 12 learners). This is not a mainstream role it requires someone patient adaptable and confident in managing a classroom of learners with diverse and high needs.

Location:Peterborough (Fengate)

Working Hours: 8.30 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday inclusive of a daily unpaid lunch break. 37.5 hours per week

What are we looking for

Qualifications:

  • AET/CERT ED/PGCE or other relevant teaching Qualifications (Essential)
  • Maths Grade C/4 or above or Functional skills level 2 (Essential)
  • Assessor qualification (Essential)
  • SEN qualifications (desirable)
  • Experience of teaching learners with various abilities or learning needs (Essential)
  • Experienced working with learners who present learning differences (Essential)
  • Confident with your delivery (Essential)
  • Knowledge of EHCPs (desirable)

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills English L1/L2 sessions to individuals and groups
  • Support learners to develop CVs interview skills job applications and work-related skills
  • Utilise resources effectively to support learners with high needs including ADHD Autism and other learning differences.
  • Lesson planning schemes of work and Individual Student Plans (ISPs)
  • Mark assess and set targets for learners to develop knowledge and skills through their programme
  • Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to learners parents and parents/professionals where appropriate
  • Plan educational visits and work-related activities
  • Follow and promote safeguarding health & safety confidentiality and data protection policies

Pre-employment checks

The full-time equivalent annual leave entitlement is 20 days per year in addition to 8 UK public holidays. An additional day of leave will be added for each complete year of service effective from the commencement of the next holiday year up to a maximum of 5 additional days after 5 years of service giving a maximum total annual leave entitlement of 25 days. This will be pro rata for part-time hours.

We operate a Christmas and New Year shutdown period in which you will receive an additional 3 days of leave at full pay to cover this closure period after 1 year of service. This will be pro rata for part-time hours.
