Position Summary:
Vanguard University of Southern California invites applications for a creative and visionary Professor of Commercial Music and Technology to join our vibrant Department of Music. This faculty member will inspire students to pursue careers in cutting-edge music production sound design commercial artistry and worship technology all within a Christ-centered community dedicated to integrating faith and artistic expression. Essential Functions:
Teach undergraduate courses in areas such as:
o Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs)
o Studio Production and Recording Techniques
o Live Sound
o Songwriting and Arranging for Commercial Music
o Music Business and Entrepreneurship
o History of American Popular Music
Supervise student projects and mentor students pursuing careers in commercial music artistry studio production and worship technology.
Manage oversee and ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the on-campus recording studio providing a high-quality cutting-edge learning environment for students.
Maintain an active professional practice in music technology and/or commercial music.
Collaborate with faculty across the department to advance innovative curriculum design. Contribute to departmental service recruitment and student mentoring.
Teach other courses as assigned to meet departmental needs.
Serve actively on departmental college and university committees in support of Vanguards mission.
Participate fully in campus life including chapel and faculty development activities
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in Music Technology Commercial Music Recording Arts or a closely related field (Doctorate preferred).
Demonstrated expertise in music technology audio production or commercial music performance.
Evidence of effective teaching and student mentoring at the college or university level.
Active engagement in professional work within recording studio contexts (recording performing producing or engineering).
Commitment to the integration of Christian faith and learning consistent with the mission of Vanguard University.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in a relevant field.
Extensive professional experience in commercial music production or related industries.
Strong record of student mentorship and industry networking.
Ability to develop partnerships with churches studios and the broader music industry.
Salary:
Full-time position. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for an appointment to an endowed professorship with additional compensation.
Assistant Professor: $60595 to $81501
Associate Professor: $70676 to $95190
Professor: $82031 to $113974
Placement at an appropriate rank (e.g. Assistant Associate or Full Professor) and initial salary are dependent upon education and experience and are based on Vanguards faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates who demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank. Vanguard University also offers a very competitive and generous benefits package.
Vanguard offers both tenure-track and term faculty contracts; the type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidates qualifications at the time of hire.
