What you will do:As a Tax Specialist in our Income Tax Services area you will ensure compliance with South Carolina and federal tax laws by analyzing and adjusting Income Tax returns in a fair consistent and accurate manner.
Primary job duties include:
- Reviewing and auditing tax returns and making any adjustments needed to ensure taxpayer compliance with federal and state tax laws
- Communicating with taxpayers to explain return adjustments
- Staying up to date on tax law changes and on knowledge of our internal tax systems
- Making recommendations to improve existing processes
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Either:
- A bachelors degree with multiple accounting courses (Transcripts required. Attach to application or email to.) OR
- An associates degree and experience in accounting finance insurance or tax preparation/analysis
- Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with multiple accounting hours
- Bachelors degree and one year of experience in accounting auditing finance insurance or tax preparation/analysis
- Associates degree and three years of experience in accounting auditing finance insurance or tax preparation/analysis
- Twelve semester hours in accounting audit or other business-related subjects
- Basic knowledge of SC tax laws and forms and on-line computer systems

- Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.
- Career development: This position is part of an SCDOR Training Plan which provides learning opportunities that support career growth.
