Overview:

MPLX Logistics and Storage (L&S) Accounting records costs and revenue for the L&S segment prepares financial statements for operated joint ventures engages with the business through financial reports and maintains accounting records for SEC and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) reporting.

The Lead Accountant position assists in leading the cost accounting functions of MPLX L&S Accounting. This position collaborates with individuals inside and outside accounting to ensure the integrity of financial statements. The position will be responsible for coordinating month-end close in a timely and accurate manner assisting cost accountants with month-end reporting ensuring processes are operating effectively and consistently and leading special projects. The successful candidate should be a self-starter with strong analytical skills desire to train and mentor others and someone who works well in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create record and review journal entries and other transactions maintain general ledger and reconcile accounts as necessary
  • Collect compile analyze and verify financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records. Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate monthly closeouts for the MPLX L&S Cost Accountants
  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot issues and design new processes to support MPLX L&S Accounting with changing business needs
  • Ensure alignment of cost accounting processes across MPLX L&S Accounting
  • Train mentor and assist supervisor in directing activities of MPLX L&S Cost Accountants
  • Maintain cost accounting process for L&S time writing infrastructure and reports
  • Understand impacts and develop processes as necessary to support NextGen Maintenance & Mobility efforts
  • Identify efficiency opportunities and implement improvements to the cost accounting and reporting processes
  • Serves as a resource on key systems/tools which may include but not limited to Excel SAP and BW
  • Leads cross-functional projects interacting with various business partners such as MPC Consolidation Accounting Tax Internal Audit Technical Accounting and MPL Business Operations & Planning
  • Engage in FERC Form 6 preparation process

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field. Accounting degree preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant Accounting/Finance experience
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 10%
