Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Production and Menu Management System Administrator and in collaboration with the Marketplace Executive Chef this position manages the daily receiving storage rotation and distribution of food and supplies. The role ensures compliance with food safety sanitation and inventory standards and supports efficient Marketplace operations. When not handling receiving or inventory tasks the employee assists with food preparation service and sanitation as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Receive inspect and verify all deliveries while maintaining accurate records and adhering to ServSafe and HACCP guidelines.

  • Efficiently store and organize inventory in dry storage freezer and refrigeration areas using FIFO rotation temperature control and proper labeling standards to support kitchen workflow and minimize waste.

  • Maintain daily organization of storage areas to ensure efficient truck positioning timely unloading and improved accuracy in ordering and inventory management.

  • Assist the Production and Menu Management System Administrator with inventory management and ordering processes including completing order sheets verifying product counts and preparing stock reports as assigned.

  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and sanitation in all receiving storage preparation and dishwashing areas.

  • Safely operate University vehicles to deliver products and supplies between dining locations as needed.

  • After completing receiving and stocking duties perform assigned follow-up tasks from the Production and Menu Management System Administrator such as inventory counts order preparation or stock verification.

  • Once receiving and inventory duties are complete assist other Marketplace operations as directed by the Production and Menu Management System Administrator or Marketplace Executive Chef.

  • Participate in setup and breakdown of catered events and perform service duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork communication and customer service to support the overall success of Dining Services.

Work Schedule: Monday Friday 5:30 am - 2:00 pmwith work schedules determined based on departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Two to three years of work experience in a commercial kitchen environment is preferred or a combination of work experience and education from which a similar background would be achieved.

  • ServSafe certification or willingness to acquire within a year of employment date.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment.

  • Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and provide responses in writing.

  • Ability to use computers to read and respond to emails and to use basic applications is also required.

  • Must be committed to following departmental standards and guidelines to ensure the safety of self and others. Occasional overtime may be required.

  • Must possess a valid Virginia drivers license and a good driving history. Must be able to pass an extensive background check.

Physical Requirements

  • Fingering: Picking pinching typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists hands and/or fingers.

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet particularly for sustained periods of time.

  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward.

  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw drag haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.

  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts moving vehicles electrical current working on scaffolding and high places exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

Type of Work: Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

$17.75 - Pay Commensurate with Experience
