This 4-credit in-person coursemeets Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00-4:45 p.m.on Wentworths Boston campus.
Course Description:
This course serves as an introduction to the theory and practice of Media Culture and Communication Studies. Students will explore and critically examine from a humanities perspective our technologically mediated culture as it impacts society and they will consider their own social cultural ethical legal and philosophical roles and responsibilities as media content producers and consumers. Students will explore a variety of digital tools and techniques for analyzing texts assessing problems and communicating results.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degreein Communication Media Studies Cultural Studies Information Design or a closely related humanities or social-science field (PhD or ABD preferred).
At least one yearof college-level teaching or professional training in media communication or digital culture
Professional or Research Experience:
Demonstrated experience analyzing or researching media industries communication systems or digital cultures.
Applied or scholarly experience in media literacy media production or digital communication tools.
Evidence of balanced critical engagement with multiple perspectives on medias social and political impact avoiding ideological bias and encouraging open inquiry.
Preferred Competencies:
Ability to help students critically evaluate media messages and communication technologies in a fact-based politically neutralmanner that fosters civil discourse and intellectual diversity.
Familiarity with digital-media analysis and visualization tools (e.g. social-media metrics web-based text analysis or content-analysis software).
Commitment to inclusive discussion-driven teachingthat builds students analytical writing and presentation skills.
Experience integrating ethics global awareness and technological change into humanities or communication curricula including familiarity with AI in the media.

Position Details:

Adjunct faculty compensation varies based on instructional mode (lecture or lab) number of course credits and program. The minimum adjunct rate is $1365 per credit.
