Duties Summary
Performs maintenance overhaul repair and installation of various types of mechanical and combination locking devices; makes keys and changes lock combinations; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements-To qualify you must meet all of the following requirements:
Experience Requirement
Three (3) years of experience in locksmith work which demonstrated knowledge and abilities required in the maintenance overhaul repair and installation of mechanical and combination locking mechanisms.
Knowledge of:
Internal structure and operating characteristics of standard mechanical locking devices; combination
locking devices; practices tools equipment and materials used in locksmith work; methods of cutting new and
duplicate keys; methods of installing and repairing lock assemblies in doors office equipment and safes.
Ability to:
Operate key cutting machines and other equipment and tools used in the locksmith trade; maintain simple records and files.
Selective Certification
Drivers License
Applicants must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii.
Substitutions Allowed
Successful completion of a one-year program in a locksmith curriculum of an approved community college technical school or locksmith manufacturer training program may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. Education gained from correspondence courses is non-qualifying.
