Job Description Summary:

The Senior Scientist in the Department of Radiology is responsible for advancing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research within the Cerebrovascular Imaging and Analytics (CInA) Laboratory. The position focuses on investigating cerebrovascular pathology and its relationship to glymphatic function to improve understanding of the neurobiology underlying Alzheimers disease and related dementias. This role develops and applies advanced MRI acquisition processing and analysis methods to achieve accurate and reproducible measures of brain physiology. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing imaging pipelines refining analysis workflows and ensuring methodological rigor across studies. The Senior Scientist contributes to study design data interpretation manuscript preparation and grant development. The position collaborates closely with neurologists psychologists radiologists physicists bioengineers and biostatisticians.

Job Description:

Job Duties

  • Perform preprocessing and pipelining of functional and structural MRI and DTI data; prepare and analyze data for presentation; work at the command-line in for neuroimaging processing and analysis (FSL AFNI in-house software tools).
  • Assist with modifying computer scripts and analytical pipelines to enhance data processing reproducibility and study-specific objectives.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation grant proposals and dissemination of research findings providing interpretation of imaging results.
  • Conduct literature reviews and maintain expertise in emerging neuroimaging methods to inform project development and improve analysis approaches.
  • Mentor and guide analysts trainees and research staff in neuroimaging methods data analysis workflows and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience

  • Nine (9) years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Knowledge of MRI methods and application to neuroscience as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Experience with a command line environment (e.g. UNIX MATLAB Python R).

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • A PhD in engineering biomedical engineering medical physics physics chemistry biostatistics computational neuroscience or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience in neuroimaging data processing.
  • Two (2) years of UNIX and shell scripting experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience with Python MATLAB and/or R programming language.
  • Experience with fMRIPrep DTIPrep and QSIPrep.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch for data analysis.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
