This is a project role funded through June 2026

Duties

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fiscal Analyst 3 to support the agencys readiness for the statewide OneWA accounting system transition. This project-based role provides the opportunity to apply your financial analysis and reconciliation skills while backfilling critical fiscal functions that enable other team members to participate in project activities. You will play a key role in ensuring the agency maintains accurate timely and compliant fiscal operations during this major system change.

Some of what youll do includes:

  • Analyzing daily and monthly reports of contributions rollovers distributions and payments to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Coordinating and validating daily fund transfers with the Office of the State Treasurer to ensure timely investments and customer disbursements.
  • Preparing daily deposits reconciling activity and monitoring cash flow to support investment and benefit payment needs.
  • Performing reconciliations and journal entries in the Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS).
  • Supporting employers with reporting corrections in the Employer Reporting Application (ERA).
  • Researching and resolving complex accounting anomalies such as contribution rejects disbursement reversals and lost earnings activities.
  • Documenting procedures and suggesting improvements to support effective fiscal operations.

NOTE: After successful completion of the review period and effectively demonstrating the ability to perform work independently you may be eligible to telework up to two (2) days per week at the discretion of the Appointing Authority and with a telework agreement in place. You must live within a reasonable commuting distance (less than 50 straight- line miles) to the DRS building in Tumwater WA and must be willing and able to adjust your telework schedule whenever necessary to complete work assignments attend mandatory meetings trainings etc. at the DRS facility.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing processing reconciling and balancing transactions and accounting records;

The above experience is typically gained through at least four (4) years of full-time professional experience. An associates degree or higher in accounting or a closely related field (including 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting) may substitute for up to two years of experience

Experience can be gained through various combinations of professional employment and volunteer/personal experience.

  • Intermediate proficiency utilizing Microsoft Outlook and Excel; and
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following competency areas:

Uses data and information in a clear and rational thought process to assess and understand issues evaluate options form accurate conclusions and make recommendations/decisions.

Familiar and comfortable working with numbers. Understands how numbers are related combined and estimated; accurately executes arithmetical calculations such as addition subtraction multiplication and division. Quickly recognizes when the results of a mathematical operation are inconsistent with expectations and detects probable errors in calculations.

Effectively organizes and prioritizes multiple sometimes complex assignments often involving competing priorities to produce work products that are accurate thorough and on-time. Transitions easily between tasks; is able to incorporate project work into established workload and meet deadlines.
