Job Summary:
The Construction Specialist role involves ensuring contractor compliance with safety health and environmental regulations on construction sites. This includes reviewing safety plans conducting site inspections providing coaching and participating in incident investigations. The specialist will also support project teams with safety and environmental matters and coordinate with emergency services.
Location:Niagara Falls New York United States
Responsibilities:
- Reviews contractor Health and Safety Plans (HASP) for hazard identification and mitigation.
- Verifies contractor training adequacy for assigned tasks.
- Conducts frequent on-site reviews of contractor work providing written summaries of gaps and issues.
- Ensures corrective actions are developed and implemented for identified gaps.
- Stops work when conditions pose a significant risk of injury or fatality.
- Ensures daily job briefs are conducted.
- Coaches contractor employees and subcontractors on proper PPE usage.
- Leads and participates in incident investigations.
- Assists project delivery and management staff with safety and environmental questions.
- Coordinates with emergency service organizations.
- Attends contractor safety committee meetings.
- Supports the preparation of internal reports by gathering data.
- Executes other EHS tasks as requested by management.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Thorough knowledge of federal state and local safety health and environmental regulations.
- Incident Investigation (RCA) trained.
- First Aid CPR certification.
- Minimum of 2-5 years EHS experience if no degree.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Bachelors degree.
- Knowledge of Power Generation transmission systems renewables and components.
- Transmission/ROW EHS experience.
- Certifications (CSP ASP CIH CHST).
- Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks concurrently.
- Knowledge of workplace hazards for construction electric utility transmission substations and right of ways.
- Ability to work closely with site/region leadership in a matrixed fashion.
