Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Patient Registration Representative I enables patients to access care at facilities by completing registration and pre-registration tasks for outpatient and inpatient accounts. This role involves calculating and securing patient liabilities including copayments coinsurance and deductibles while ensuring accuracy and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:

- Safeguard patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies.
- Ensure a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices.
- Exhibit positive guest relations skills by being hospitable and helpful to patients physicians coworkers and visitors.
- Maintain organizational skills and efficiency by solving problems setting priorities and organizing work activities.
- Complete a minimum of 20 registrations per 8-hour shift including scanning documents verifying insurance and securing upfront collections.
- Register all patients in a timely manner completing the registration process within specified timeframes.
- Demonstrate flexibility by working productively in all registration departments and adjusting schedules as needed.
- Comply with all policies and procedures ensuring accuracy in data entry and completion of required forms.
- Utilize positive collection skills to request payments from patients with out-of-pocket expenses copays and coinsurance.
- Participate in performance improvement programs and demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills.
- Adhere to attendance and tardy policies providing timely notification of absences.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Answer unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Perform data entry into electronic medical database systems. Documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Perform selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs. Notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
- Perform any other related duties (e.g. clerical technical duties) as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and mathematical skills.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Insurance knowledge.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Stringent adherence to HIPAA laws.
- Strong typing skills (45 WPM).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and phone skills.
- One year of experience in a high-volume healthcare facility or medical office setting with strong computer and customer service experience.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Insurance and billing experience.
- Drivers License; ability to travel to off-site locations (Outpatient only)
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin).
- Evidence of continuing education.
Special Considerations:

- Must have availability to train 9-5 for the first 2 weeks.
Scheduling:
- 2-3 shifts per week.
- 8-hour shifts from 11 PM to 7:30 AM.
