The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for providing onsite support to employees at the Plasterform manufacturing facility in Mississauga. This is a part-time temporary contract position working up to 20-24 hrs per week. The contract term will be for an initial 12 months with possibility of extension to 18 months.

The position plays a key role in strategic and operational management of human resources in the areas of policy administration recruitment and agency staffing employee onboarding and training benefits and leave administration employee relations and discipline administration performance management and regulatory/audit compliance. This is an onsite position responsible for providing HR support to 50 employees in a manufacturing facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

HR Service Delivery

  • Engages in proactive positive employee relations activities through frequent interaction with employees on the floor ensuring direct and open lines of communications and responding promptly to concerns and issues.
  • Manages the recruitment process and assumes ownership for onboarding/new hire orientation. Manages temp agency partnerships/relationships.
  • Communicate and assist with employee benefits program enrollment.
  • Manages hourly wage program conducts wage surveys to ensure market competitiveness. Collaborates with head office on compensation for office/administrative staff.
  • Manages paid time off policies and leave of absence requests.
  • Responsible for creation managementand retention of personnel employment records ensuring local and regulatory compliance.
  • Processes employee actions (hires promotions transfers terminations).

Coach & Develop Front Line Supervisors

  • Provides leadership and supervisory training to supervisors and team leaders and provides feedback and counseling as appropriate to ensure development.
  • Supports managers to ensure effectiveperformance coaching and counseling to employees.
  • Provide guidance to management on conflict resolution anddiscipline administration. Conduct investigations as required.

Workers Compensation & Safety

  • Partners with the EHS Specialist on plants workers compensation process ensuring resolution of outstanding open cases.
  • Assists with investigatingincidents and accidents and responds to events to support employee(s) and represent the company.

Policies & Procedures/Communication

  • Responsible for developing and updating site employment manual policies and procedures.
  • Ensures implementation of all site and company policies; and promotes compliance through ongoing awareness and annual training.
  • Maintains bulletin boards.
  • Maintains compliance with all provincial and federal posting requirements.

Rewards and Recognition

  • Assists with event planning employee meals/cookouts charitable contributions etc.
  • Provides recognition system administrative support.
  • Manages charitable/community service projects.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with or the ability to quickly learn thehuman resource information system (HRIS)and similar computer applications.
  • Knowledge of labor laws in Ontario.
  • Bilingual (Vietnamese) and English a plus

Education/Experience

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Business HR or related field required.
  • 3 - 5years of human resource work experience.
  • Experience working in a multi-shift manufacturing/industrial or construction environment strongly preferred.
