This position is a key member of the professional staff in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Budget Office. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a large complex organization that has a budget of over $5 billion with total faculty and staff in excess of 22800 FTE. The Budget Office oversees the development and administration of both operating and capital budgets including coordinating submissions from forty-five academic and administrative units. It collaborates with departments across campus to provide budgetary guidance training and support. The Budget Office prepares financial analysis for senior campus leadership including the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration the Provost and the Chancellor. The Budget Office prepares multi-year forecasts and evaluates funding strategies. It is also responsible for overseeing resource allocations through the activity-based budget approach to be implemented in fiscal year 2027.

Budget Planner I Position Description: Planner II Position Description: Well qualified applicants selected for the Budget Planner I title can expect to earn between $60000 - $90000. Candidates selected for the Budget Planner II title can expect to earn between $90000 - $130000 for the Budget planner II title. Final salary and title level will be based on experience and qualifications. 1. Experience creating manipulating and extracting information from large data sets. 2. Effective written and oral communications skills including preparation of complex analysis of financial information. 3. Ability to lead and collaborate with other financial staff and management. 4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 1. Ability to obtain and analyze data with automated tools (e.g. Microsoft Access Tableau/other visualization tools). 2. Experience with Workday and Adaptive Planning. 3. Extensive knowledge of financial budgeting and management principles practices and procedures including budget forecasting. 4. Ability to develop and write accurate and concise financial policies and procedures. 5. Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative policy analysis techniques. 6. Knowledge of State of Wisconsin and/or UW System budgeting and budget management processes. 7. Knowledge of government accounting practices and techniques. 8. Ability to advise management and make alternative recommendations. 9. Knowledge of business intelligence tools.
