Job Summary

This is advanced technical field and office work involving the assessment of and long-term planning for municipal servicing infrastructure including road drainage diking sanitary sewer and water works. The work included maintaining the municipal servicing and infrastructure models using various software including CAD and the Citys GIS & Mapping system and assessing future needs; assisting in the development of the capital works program; completing engineering related technical assignments involving engineering and environmental issues requests for service by the public; and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.

The incumbent exercises considerable independence of action and judgment in processing assignments referring or discussing unusual or more complex problems with a superior. Accuracy is of major importance as the work may form the basis for important financial reporting and engineering determinations. Work performance is reviewed in terms of technical adequacy completeness and achievement of desired results and for conformance with departmental procedures and standards.

The Training Manual Requirements pre-qualifications for this position are:

  • Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology supplemented by safety environmental and other related courses.
  • Three (3) years of utility modelling and asset management experience in municipal engineering in areas such as streets drainage sanitary sewer works and water works engineering.

The Class Specification requires a Registered or eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (ASTT) of BC as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) Valid Class 5 Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia and are job requirements.
