Contract: 9 months with potential for extension
Location: Hybrid (Melbourne-based)
What Youll Do
- Design implement and optimise database structures tables views and materialised views in PostgreSQL.
- Analyse tune and refactor complex SQL queries for performance and maintainability.
- Create efficient CTEs (including recursive CTEs) and PL/pgSQL functions especially for recursive and hierarchical data structures (e.g. organisational hierarchies).
- Review and enhance existing schemas and data models to align with best practices for scalability and performance.
- Collaborate with existing Developers and DBAs to implement indexing partitioning caching and query execution improvements.
- Support and mentor the current database team promoting modern consistent and maintainable design and development practices.
- Contribute to PostgreSQL deployment configuration and performance monitoring as needed.
- Troubleshoot database issues and identify root causes related to performance design or data integrity.
Core Technical Skills
- Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL development experience.
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals storage query planning execution and indexing strategies.
- Practical experience with recursive queries and hierarchical data models.
- Solid grounding in database design and normalisation with an eye for practical performance optimisation.
- A solid working knowledge of PostgreSQL installation configuration and maintenance
- Familiarity with query profiling and tuning tools (e.g. EXPLAIN ANALYZE pgstatstatements).
- Experience with schema refactoring indexing strategy and data access performance improvements.
- Ability to work independently identify opportunities for optimisation and communicate improvements clearly to peers.
