WHO WE NEED

We are seeking a Digitization Intern (Mycology) to support the digitization of the Royal Ontario Museums Fungi Collection (TRTC) one of the largest and most significant fungal collections in North America. This part-time internship is made possible through the support of the Mycological Society of Toronto and is ideal for a university student or recent graduate with an interest in mycology and natural history collections management.


HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Digitally capture label data from thousands of fungal specimens in the ROMs mycology collection.
  • Image specimen labels so they can be shared through the Notes from Nature Public Participation in Science Research platform.
  • Work under the guidance of the Collections SpecialistFungi to ensure images meet quality standards for use in research and crowd-sourcing.
  • Contribute directly to advancing digitization of the ROMs collections supporting research in fungal taxonomy ecology climate change and medical science.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Enrollment in or completion of a 4-year Bachelors degree.
  • Minimum of one year (but less than two years) experience handling fungal or herbarium specimens.
  • Experience with photography.
  • Familiarity with Adobe imaging software Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; experience with Camera One is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical guidance for imaging and data capture.

SALARY & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • START DATE: December 2025
  • OPEN DATE: October 24 2025
  • CLOSE DATE: Open until filled
  • STATUS: Part-time contract
  • EMPLOYEE GROUP: Non-Union
  • HOURLY RATE: $27.58/hour
  • SCHEDULE: Up to 24 hours per week
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 6 months
  • LOCATION (onsite): Toronto ON

WHAT TO EXPECT IN OUR INTERVIEW PROCESS
  1. Initial conversation: A 30-minute virtual conversation** with a Recruiter to discuss your interest in the role and ROM and how you can make an impact.
  2. First interview: A 1-hour in-person or virtual interview with the Hiring Manager and a member of the HR team. This in-depth interview will focus on your skills and how they align with the teams and ROMs needs.
