How will you make an impact in this role

The Vice President Software Engineering Financial Crimes will lead engineering strategy and delivery for platforms that detect prevent and respond to financial crimes across American Express global network. This senior leader will define the engineering vision build scalable solutions for end-to-end customer journeys and ensure regulatory and compliance requirements are met. The role requires a deep technical background outstanding leadership skills and the ability to shape engineering capabilities that protect our customers and the integrity of the financial system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Strategy & Vision: Define and execute the engineering roadmap for financial crime platforms aligning with enterprise strategy and regulatory obligations.
  • Technology Delivery: Lead the design development and implementation of secure scalable and high-performance solutions for fraud prevention AML sanctions screening and transaction monitoring.
  • Innovation & Modernization: Drive adoption of modern architectures (cloud-native microservices APIs) and emerging technologies such as AI/ML graph analytics and real-time monitoring.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Alignment: Ensure engineering solutions meet regulatory compliance and audit requirements enabling effective risk management.
  • Engineering Excellence: Establish best practices in coding testing automation and DevSecOps to deliver resilient and high-quality platforms.
  • Cross-functional Partnership: Collaborate with Risk Compliance Operations and Business stakeholders to co-create solutions that balance security customer experience and business value.
  • Leadership & Culture: Build and inspire a world-class engineering organization fostering a culture of accountability inclusion innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Talent Development: Recruit mentor and develop top engineering talent across global locations.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and business partners communicating technical strategies and delivery outcomes effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years of progressive software engineering experience including 5 years in a senior/executive engineering leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in building and scaling technology platforms for financial crime prevention fraud management or risk/compliance solutions a plus.
  • Strong background in distributed systems real-time transaction processing and data engineering at scale.
  • Hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS GCP or Azure) microservices and APIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver enterprise-scale solutions in regulated industries preferably financial services or fintech.
  • Strong understanding of AML KYC sanctions and fraud prevention regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience leading large diverse and global engineering organizations.
  • Excellent communication influencing and stakeholder management skills across technical business and regulatory audiences.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to connect engineering outcomes to customer trust compliance and enterprise risk reduction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data/AI-driven engineering experience.
