Job Summary

Are you an electrical engineer who thrives on building relationships leading teams and delivering smart sustainable design solutions

Were looking for a senior or intermediate electrical engineer to join our electrical group at R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited. Were open to candidates who wish to work out of one of our Ontario offices.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people as much as solving complex design challenges someone who sees project delivery client engagement and mentorship as interconnected and equally important.

The Electrical group at Burnside undertakes work for a variety of clients in the private public Aboriginal and golf sectors. Our group applications include designs for commercial and light industrial buildings (power lighting fire alarm and communications) street & site lighting subdivisions transportation hubs healthcare facilities pumping stations and electric vehicle charging stations.

What Youll Be Doing

In this role you will take ownership of a wide variety of design and engineering tasks including:

  • Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to provide innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Lead the design of power distribution lighting and fire alarm systems for municipal commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Lead the design for street lighting (including photometrics) subdivision electrical design site electrical design hydro coordination and emergency power design.
  • Support multidisciplinary teams with electrical expertise during all project phases
  • Participate in and lead client meetings building long-term partnerships and identifying new opportunities.
  • Write and contribute to proposals technical reports and documentation for project submissions.
  • Oversee construction administration and project delivery from design through to completion.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians with opportunities to grow into a formal people management role
  • Work closely with other Burnside offices and disciplines to ensure efficient high quality project execution

What You Bring

Were looking for someone who is technically strong highly organized and enthusiastic about making a difference. Youll have:

  • A . license in Ontario with 5 to 10 years of electrical power and lighting design experience.
  • Solid knowledge of the current Electrical Safety Codes (CEC and OESC) and National and Ontario Building codes.
  • Strong grasp of industry standards permitting processes and approval agency expectations.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage schedules budgets and priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills youre confident in both technical writing and client-facing conversations
  • A collaborative and proactive mindset with a strong interest in mentoring others and growing your leadership impact.
  • A passion for developing strong client relationships and contributing to business development.

What Sets You Apart

Wed love to hear from candidates who also bring:

  • Experience managing projects or small teams
  • Familiarity with Metrolinx standards and projects
  • Knowledge of AGi32 or Visual lighting software
  • Hands-on project management experience from concept through construction
  • Familiarity with or interest in OTM Book 12 and traffic signal design
