Senior Media Librarian Metadata and Information Management

Please note: This position is 6 months with the possibility of extension Metadata and Information Management is seeking a Senior Media Librarian to support the work of its clients in content production.

In alignment with CBCs corporate and departmental standards and policies you will provide hands-on support around metadata standards and semantic frameworks including engaging with clients to facilitate the searchability access and retrieval of media assets in our various production and preservation systems. We are seeking an organized detail-oriented and tech-savvy Media Librarian with a strong understanding of digital media workflows and technologies to help manage and maintain our growing collection of digital media assets. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of professional experience in a similar role a foundational knowledge of library science principles and proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key Tasks:

  • Catalogue classify and tag content using metadata standards and controlled vocabularies. Manage the daily operations of the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system ensuring all media is stored secured and easily retrievable by internal teams.

  • Implement and maintain best practices for media preservation including file format migration data backup and long-term storage strategies for archival materials.

  • Provide training and assistance to staff and clients on how to search retrieve and access media assets.

  • Provide program material and/or research information on-demand and assist clients in the selection of material and the use of library resources.

  • Advise program production personnel on the availability of broadcast materials and assist them in obtaining materials. Screen broadcast material and select stock footage prepare shot lists.

  • Provide research and analysis to support decisions regarding metadata optimization Perform other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Knowledge of metadata standards subject analysis and controlled vocabularies. Knowledge of or experience cataloging digital collections.

  • Technical proficiency in digital media formats file handling and quality control procedures.

  • Experience with video production workflows and file formats.

  • Demonstrated experience cataloging and managing digital collections particularly audio and video.

  • Understanding of mass digitization workflows digital preservation principles and best practices.

  • Experience with digital asset management systems (DAMs) and related technologies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work independently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.

  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving project needs and technological advancements.

  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming and archival collections is an asset.

  • 2 years of relevant experience in digital librarianship or archival work.

  • A Masters degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent education and experience.
