Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: 0.5 FTE Long-Term Substitute Middle School Literacy Specialist

Reports to: ELA Department Head & Building Principal

Terms of Employment: To cover an immediate leave of absence through approximately January 12 2026 unless circumstances dictate a change.

$175 per diem for days worked. Non-benefits eligible at-will position.

JOB GOAL:

The literacy specialist facilitates the Lexington middle school literacy program. This includes providing literacy interventions participating in the MTSS and SST process providing literacy push-in support in classes and collaborating with department colleagues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide research-based direct instruction in small intervention groups to at-risk students.
  2. Work collaboratively with the school-wide team on the appropriate use of data in making educational decisions.
  3. Facilitate the coordination of school-wide and individual student progress monitoring data.
  4. Provide Push-In Literacy support in classes.
  5. Collaborate with building administration the department head and teacher teams to review student data.
  6. Evaluates students academic growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  7. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the literacy program.
  8. All other duties as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  5. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
  6. Maintain a caseload of students receiving instructional interventions as determined by building administration.
  7. Attend Intervention Specialist meetings and share pertinent information with building administration and teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate MA DESE licensure in Reading
  • Masters degree in Specialist teacher of Reading Language and Literacy English Language Arts Curriculum and/or English as a Second Language preferred.
  • Leadership and organizational qualities that include the ability to facilitate teams communicate collaboratively and coordinate data.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Response to Intervention (RtI) process at-risk supports and literacy development.
