We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Solicitor to join our Legal team. This role is based in our Lambton Quay office in Wellington.
Kōrero mō te tūranga About the role
Legal work for Manatū Taonga is hugely varied and interesting and includes public and administrative law privacy and official information contract and commercial law policy development and law reform intellectual property law competition law resource management law litigation and Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi related issues. As well as strong internal relationships we work closely with our Crown entities and other funded agencies.
This is an opportunity to be part of our small and friendly Te Pae Tāuhu Legal teamwith a particular focus on supporting the development and implementation of government policy and legislation relevant to the arts culture sports and heritage sectors. This opportunity includes supporting the legislative processes relating to media policy reforms.
Kōrero mōu About you
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small and agile team. Your creativity sound judgment and analytical skills will pave the way for you in this role. Excellent communication skills initiative and the ability to work to deadlines are essential. You need to have the confidence to lead legal support to internal clients on a daily basis.
You must have been admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand and have (or be eligible for) a current practising certificate with five plus years PQE in a relevant area of law.
Experience in providing legal advice on Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi and working with iwi public law and/or in drafting and reviewing contracts would be particularly useful for this role. Understanding of the public sector and Crown entities would be helpful.
You will have the ability and confidence to lead the provision of legal support to internal client groups and experience in some of the areas relevant to this role.
