Job Description

The Department of Speech Hearing and Rehabilitation Services at Minnesota State University Mankato invites applications for a probationary Assistant Professor beginning August 17 2026. This position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Communication Sciences and Disorders programs. This position requires delivering clinical instruction mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and providing clinical services on campus and at regional locations. This position requires active engagement in scholarship advising continuing preparation services to the University community and discipline. A Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a minimum of nine months of practice experience post-certification by 8/17/2026 are required for this position.

  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face hybrid and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus online and/or at the universitys additional locations as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design instruction and evaluation conduct research productively and mentor students in research help create innovative strategies for student recruitment retention and completion and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research in continuing preparation and study in contributing to student growth and development and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)
  • This position will advise undergraduate and graduate majors.
  • This position will supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the delivery of clinical services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism
  • Demonstrated experience in the Communication Sciences and Disorders field through teaching or scholarly activity.
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field. Evidence of degree completion by the time of the appointment or within one year of starting the position.
  • Have Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and complete a minimum of nine months of practice experience post-certification by 8/17/2026.
  • Have or be eligible for licensure as a speech-language pathologist in the state of Minnesota (through the MN Department of Health.

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in the Communication Sciences and Disorders discipline at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated preparation and experience to teach advise supervise and support a wide variety of students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work individually and collaboratively as a member of a team in a collegial and cooperative manner.
  • Earned at least two hours of professional development post-certification in the area of supervision and/or clinical instruction by 8/17/2026.
  • Demonstrated potential for research creativity or scholarly activity.

About

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Program at Minnesota State University Mankato housed within the Department of Speech Hearing and Rehabilitation Services in the College of Allied Health and Nursing offers both B.S. and M.S. degrees. Accredited by ASHA the M.S. program in speech-language pathology has been offered since 1970 and prepares students for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) as well as state licensure to work in educational and healthcare settings. The undergraduate curriculum provides pre-professional training in speech-language pathology and audiology including foundational and advanced coursework as well as supervised practicum experiences. The graduate program builds on this foundation with specialized coursework and clinical training. Our department also houses an American Sign Language Certificate program which builds foundational sign language skills while fostering effective communication and cultural awareness for meaningful engagement with the Deaf community. The Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders serves as both a training facility and community-based clinic supporting students and clients with communication disorders.
