Job Description

As a Resident Assistant you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming environment within the residence halls. You will be responsible for fostering communal respect and inclusivity regardless of identity or personal preferences. Additionally you will be expected to uphold and enforce policies consistently and efficiently while seeking assistance when needed.
The Winter-Mester Resident Assistant position is active from December 18 January 14.
Responsibilities of Winter- Mester Resident Assistants
Serve as a positive role model on and off campus.
Document policy violations in accordance to department procedure
Represent the university positively to various stakeholders.
Engage and connect with residents through intentional interaction such as programming intentional conversations etc..
Actively participate and be visible in assigned community.
Foster healthy relationships and demonstrate an ethic of care with residential community.
Promote inclusivity and equity within the community.
Encourage resident involvement in leadership activities and groups.
Promote and empower residents to engage in leadership opportunities within the hall community.
Develop and implement programming in line with community development guidelines.
Maintain all paperwork systematically keeping it thorough neat and consistent.
Utilize designated programs (StarRez Maxient etc.) for required paperwork such as weekly reports program proposals funding requests study hour attendance marketing requests incident reports etc..
Required Qualifications
Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada Reno as a full-time student for duration of employment.
Candidate must have completed at least two semesters at the university/college level (High School dual enrollment does not qualify).
Candidate must be a current Resident Assistant serving during the Fall 2025 term and continuing to serve in the RA role during the Spring 2026 term.
Candidate must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average (both semester and cumulative) while holding the Resident Assistant position. Failure to meet this expectation at any point while in this position may result in probation or termination at the sole discretion of UNR.
Compensation & Benefits
Student Employee Level 1
A single occupancy room in the assigned residence hall and utilities.
Resident Assistants assigned to Canada Hall may have suitemates.
Allotted per diem for days served on-call
Note: Resident Assistant compensation may interfere with any financial aid you may receive. It is your responsibility to consult the Financial Aid office to discuss any potential impacts.
Schedule
Expected hours to work per week: An average of fifteen (15) hours per week in completion of their responsibilities.
This includes but is not limited to:
Assisting in scheduled event programming
Serving on an on-call duty rotation and addressing alleged community standard and university policy violations
On-call duty rotation will require overnight and weekend hours
Wintermester RAs are expected to be on-site for the duration of their assigned on-call duty shifts. Days when wintermester RAs are not completing on-call duty shifts may be spent off-site.
