BASIC FUNCTION:

The Automotive Repair Technicianwill perform major and minor repair and maintenance of light and heavy rolling stock.

VACANCY / POSITION SPECIFICS:

  • Working Location:Transportation Department. 4710 Cardin StreetSan Diego CA 92111
  • Work Schedule: 12months per year / 40 hours per week.
  • Salary:This position is paid on theOSSSalary Schedule. Grade048. To view the Salary Schedule click here.
  • Positions 20 hours per week or greater qualify for District-paid health and wellness benefits for the employee and their eligible dependents.
  • Vacancies thatrequirethe incumbent to be Bilingual in English/Spanish will be considered for positions that require bilingual skills will be invited to a Performance Test (Qualifying Only) for oral and written fluency. Bilingual positions qualify for a 5% bilingual differential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training experience and/or education equivalent to two years of diversified automotive repair and maintenance experience.

NOTE: Your related education and experience must be clearly represented in the work history and education section of your application.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

Possession of a valid California drivers license appropriate to the types of equipment road-tested or completion of a district-provided drivers license training program within one year of selection. Possession of a valid California drivers license with a Class A rating and passenger air brakes and tank endorsement within one year of California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Smog certifications desirable.

Examination Process


The examination process includes an application screening and evaluation based on the applicants education work history and responses to theapplication questions. Onlyapplicantswhose application packet demonstrates a combined education and experience which meets the minimum requirements for the position will be considered qualified andadvance in the process. Somepositions requireapplicants to pass additional components which may include one or more of the following: amultiple-choice oral written or performance exam specific to the position. NOTE: Most exams areconducted remotely utilizing an online testing platform. For these exams access to the internet and the use of a camera-ready desktop/laptop with a microphone is required to participate in these processes.
