PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Volunteer Engagement Manager leads the planning coordination and execution of the North Texas Food Banks (NTFB) volunteer programs and experiences. This role ensures a high-quality mission-driven experience for thousands of volunteers each year fostering lasting relationships that expand NTFBs capacity to serve neighbors facing hunger. This position also supervises Volunteer Specialists and collaborates across teams to integrate volunteer engagement into operations events and fundraising initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in nonprofit management communications or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of volunteer databases (e.g. Amplify) and donor CRMs (e.g. RENXT) preferred
- Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills; able to engage effectively with diverse audiences
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills for groups of all sizes and ages
- Proven ability to lead train and motivate staff and volunteers
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Customer-service oriented with attention to detail and confidentiality
- Knowledge of fundraising and event logistics is a plus
Experience:
- Four years of progressive experience in volunteer management community engagement or related nonprofit leadership roles including supervisory experience
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Program Leadership
- Oversee daily operations of NTFBs volunteer programs ensuring a positive safe and mission-focused experience for all participants
- Supervise train and support Volunteer Specialists in volunteer recruitment scheduling hosting and recognition
- Develop and implement strategies to expand volunteer engagement opportunities that support NTFB programs events and community partnerships
- Monitor volunteer metrics and satisfaction preparing reports to track performance and impact
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and safety standards
Collaboration and Integration
- Partner across departmentsincluding Operations Marketing Philanthropy and Programsto align volunteer initiatives with organizational goals
- Coordinate volunteers for signature events off-site activities and corporate service days in partnership with the Events and Community Engagement teams
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to highlight volunteer stories and contributions
Community Relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners corporate groups schools and civic organizations to grow engagement and awareness
- Represent NTFB as an ambassador at volunteer orientations community events and speaking engagements
Administrative and Strategic
- Oversee volunteer management software and ensure data accuracy and timely communication
- Develop and manage the annual volunteer program budget including expenses for recognition materials and events
- Contribute to departmental planning goal-setting and strategic initiatives that enhance community engagement
- Perform other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of 2 direct reports and supervise volunteers across programs and events
MENTAL DEMANDS:
- This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects handle time-sensitive deadlines resolve conflicts and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining composure and professionalism.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand sit use hands to handle or feel objects tools or controls reach with hands and arms climb stairs balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk or hear.
- Participate in physical tasks including but not limited to lifting boxes pushing carts loading vehicles standing for long periods of time moving tables etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Moderate to loud noise (e.g. light traffic business office with open floor plan with computers phone and printers and medium to heavy traffic in the warehouse with music forklifts and pallet jacks)
- This position occasionally works outdoors; therefore will be exposed to seasonal weather temperatures.
- Able to participate in events outside the traditional workday schedule and on occasional weekends
