Industrial Hygienists and Safety & Health Professionals will be compensated basic salary plus 10%for each hour they are required to use personal protective equipment (excluding hard hats boots hearing and eye protection) to enter a hazardous worksite to consult inspect or investigate where serious hazards are present.

AND IF BILINGUAL

If hired as bilingual (not required) after passing an assessment of your ability to write and speak fluently. We do not use translating software. Employees with bilingual responsibilities receive a 5% increase in pay.

AND

All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position will be provided by L&I DOSH as specified in WAC 0.

As the OSHPRO 4 Safety Supervisor youll guide and support a talented team of safety and risk management professionals who deliver voluntary compliance and safety consultation services across Eastern Washington. Youll help shape how we partner with employers and communities to make workplaces saferbuilding trust ensuring consistency and upholding L&Is mission to Keep Washington Safe and Working.

For this position you will be in office 1-2 times per week out in the field a minimum of 20% of the time and teleworking otherwise. The assigned duty station is: Spokane WA.

Duties

Some of what you will do:

  • Lead and supervise a team of Safety & Health professionals delivering voluntary compliance and consultation services to employers across Eastern Washington.
  • Coach mentor and develop staff providing technical guidance professional growth opportunities and performance feedback.
  • Assign and review consultation projects and reports to ensure accuracy consistency and alignment with DOSH and OSHA standards.
  • Coordinate regional consultation activities ensuring program effectiveness workload balance and fulfillment of state and federal performance goals.
  • Conduct consultations and accompany staff in the field as needed to evaluate service delivery and provide technical assistance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers labor groups community organizations and other state and local agencies to promote workplace safety and trust.
  • Participate in statewide planning and strategy meetings to align regional goals with DOSHs mission and consultation objectives.
  • Manage resources effectively including staff assignments equipment and budget considerations.
  • Represent DOSH at meetings conferences and outreach events to advance safety awareness and partnerships.
  • Promote a positive safe and supportive work environment for all team members.

Driving is required as part of this job. When a position has a driving requirement the incumbent must drive in order to perform the duties of their fact driving is a duty mentioned in their position description such as an L&I inspector who drives throughout the workday to get from one location to another. Therefore they must use a state-issued vehicle motor pool vehicle or personally owned vehicle (POV) in order to perform the duties and responsibilities of their position. Use of a POV will be reimbursed with the current mileage reimbursement rate.

Must be physically capable of walking through a variety of workplaces such as large manufacturing plants with metal stairways catwalks ladders and walking through rough terrain. Must also be able to be exposed to weather (wearing appropriate weather gear) for long durations.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • A valid and unrestricted drivers license

And one of the following:

  • A Bachelors degree* from an accredited university involving major study in occupational safety and health industrial hygiene or closely related field AND five years of paid occupational/industrial safety related professional experience

OR

  • A Bachelors degree* from an accredited university involving major study in occupational safety and health industrial hygiene or closely related field AND three years as an OSHPRO one of which must be at the 3 level.

OR

  • Five years of full-time journey level experience paid occupational/industrial safety related professional experience in a government military or public health work environment.

* A degree may be substituted for experience year for year.


DESIRED:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Demonstrated leadership in accident investigations inspections and regulatory enforcement
  • Lean Six Sigma training
