JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OFOPERATIONS
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Director of Operations is responsible for leading implementing and overseeing all district policies and procedures related to facility maintenance grounds care and custodial operations. This position ensures that all district facilities and grounds are clean safe functional and well-maintained to support the educational mission of the district. The director provides leadership supervision and training to maintenance and grounds staff oversees custodial service contracts and manages district bond projects and facility systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Facilities Management Construction Management Engineering or related field preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in facilities maintenance operations management or related field. Supervisory or leadership experience in maintenance grounds or custodial operations preferred.
Knowledge: Building maintenance and construction cleaning products operating machinery used in maintenance and custodial work purchasing of equipment and supplies inventory of all supplies building codes ADA compliance. Knowledge of federal state and local laws and regulations. Experience in the management of a large and diverse operation. Experience supervising personnel.
Skills: Ability to gain respect and cooperation of personnel students school patrons and administrators. Experience overseeing carpentry masonry plumbing electrical heating and air conditioning welding and small engines. Contractors license preferred.
Machines/Equipment: Bulldozer backhoe all carpentry power tools power plumbing tools cement-finishing equipment masonry equipment heat/air units computers forklift mowing equipment cars and trucks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Primary:
- Develop long-range plans for facility upgrades energy efficiency and infrastructure improvements.
- Supervise and train all maintenance and grounds personnel.
- Oversee the custodial contract.
- Oversee the implementation of school bond projects.
- Oversee the energy management system.
- Oversee the district work order system.
- Oversee the district keying system.
- Oversee facility requests.
- Serve as a liaison between the district and outside contractors vendors and regulatory agencies.
- Perform visual assessments of facilities to ensure effectiveness and safety including periodic inspections of all electrical installations boilers hot water heaters exit devices.
- Supervise the purchase and use of supplies equipment materials.
- Oversee all repairs new equipment installations and remodeling projects.
- Oversee scheduling of daily assignments for each maintenance and grounds staff member.
- Ensure that all maintenance and grounds vehicles are in safe condition ready for scheduled runs and emergencies and driven by qualified personnel to permit maximum safety and efficiency.
- Coordinate the recruitment screening and recommendation for hiring maintenance grounds and custodial contracted employees.
- Promote high standards of safety including the maintenance of clean and organized work areas.
Secondary:
- Promote a positive atmosphere which ensures open communication and an exchange of ideas and employee involvement.
- Annual evaluation of maintenance and grounds personnel.
- Update facility inventory annually.
- Maintain safety records exposure reports and training records.
- Participate in facility planning committees.
- Review budget reports annually and assist with establishing budget items for maintenance programs.
- Conduct a yearly needs assessment to determine departmental goals and objectives with staff parents and administrators.
- Assist the superintendent with decisions on school closing during inclement weather.
- Develop and implement a plan for maintenance of equipment.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate complete and up-to-date records and reports.
- Establish a plan for continuous up-dating of equipment and supplies.
- Serve as a member of the Superintendents Administrative Staff.
- Other duties as assigned by Superintendent.
