25-26 Somerville High School Musical Technical Director

Job Goal: Somerville Arts for Youth seeks a Technical Director to support the Highlander Theatre Company (HTC) 2026 Musical Production of Between the Lines which rehearses October 2025-January 2026 and performs January 29-31 2026. The Technical Director will collaborate closely with the Director in all technical aspects of the production with particular responsibility for mentoring technical theatre students and managing timelines and execution of scenery lighting sound properties costumes and projections.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree (or higher) in Theatre Theatre Education or a related field
• Demonstrated and recent experience in technical theatre or related work with young people
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Exemplary interpersonal skills for working effectively with students staff families and the community
• Experience in a multicultural and multilingual environment
• Commitment to fostering student growth and inclusion through the performing arts
• Preferred: Experience with lighting systems and hardware (ETC IonXE lighting consoles)
• Preferred: Experience with sound systems and hardware (especially Allen & Heath SQ series sound consoles)
• Preferred: Experience with theatrical rigging systems.

Responsibilities::

• Support the Director in the planning and execution of the musical production
• Participate remotely or in-person in regular Production Meetings (typically Friday afternoons 2:45-3:45pm)
• Mentor student technical leaders (Crew Heads) in all major technical departments
• Provide individualized support to production team members
• Collaborate with the Director to develop and communicate artistic and educational goals to students and staff
• Maintain open communication with students and families regarding rehearsal schedules expectations and progress
• Provide onsite support during all Technical and Dress Rehearsals (scheduled for January 24-28 2026)

• Seasonal/Yearly Appointment
