About the job:
Advantra is partnering with an early-stage biotech software startup in San Francisco to hire a Computational Biologist to build deploy and scale drug discovery tools for customers.
About the role:
You will develop and maintain computational tools for structure prediction protein design docking scoring and related drug discovery tasks. You will work directly with customers to chain and apply open-source tools and advise on best practices while collaborating closely with the founders to deploy production-ready solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Curate build and maintain computational tools for drug discovery workflows.
- Assist customers in applying tools for protein design docking scoring and structure prediction.
- Integrate multiple open-source tools into efficient pipelines for end users.
- Deploy production-ready software for internal and external use.
- Collaborate with founders to design prioritize and implement new capabilities.
- Stay up to date with the latest research and advancements in computational protein engineering.
- Provide technical guidance on AI-driven drug discovery methods.
- Document workflows pipelines and best practices for internal and customer use.
Core requirements:
- 3 years of experience in computational biology or bioinformatics.
- Strong knowledge of ML and physics-based structural biology tools.
- Familiarity with protein design molecular dynamics docking scoring and virtual screening.
Knowledge of enzymology protein therapeutics or peptide discovery.
Production-level software development experience. - AWS DevOps and MLOps experience (DynamoDB EC2 S3 Docker CUDA Conda TensorFlow PyTorch).
Strong problem-solving and customer-facing skills. - Ability to chain multiple computational tools into reproducible pipelines.
- Located in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.
- Strong familiarity with current literature in computational protein engineering.
Nice to have:
- Experience developing ML models for proteins (language models structure prediction design).
Full stack development experience e.g. React and API development.
Computational chemistry knowledge including small molecule docking or virtual screening.
Graduate degree in math computer science statistics bioengineering computational biology or related field. - Experience with production-grade scientific software.
