Staff Software Engineer

Location:New York NY (Preferred) or Remote.

About the job:
Advantra is partnering with a high-growth tech startup to hire a Staff Software Engineer to lead architectural decisions mentor engineers and own systems from design through scale.

About the role:
You will design and build large-scale production-grade software systems influence technical strategy and provide mentorship to engineering teams. You will ensure systems are maintainable scalable and aligned with business goals.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead architecture and system design for complex software projects.
2. Own end-to-end software development from concept to production.
3. Mentor and guide engineers on best practices and technical decisions.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements.
5. Make tradeoff decisions between scalability performance and maintainability.
6. Conduct code reviews and enforce high engineering standards.
7. Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
8. Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes and infrastructure.
9. Ensure observability reliability and performance of deployed systems.
   
   

Core requirements:

1. 7 years of experience in software engineering at startups or high-growth companies.
2. Proven experience in system architecture and design at scale.
3. Strong programming skills in at least one major language (Python Java Go etc.).
4. Experience building distributed scalable and maintainable systems.
5. Demonstrated mentorship of junior and mid-level engineers.
6. Experience owning production systems and guiding them through lifecycle changes.
7. Strong understanding of tradeoffs in system design reliability and performance.
8. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS GCP Azure) and infrastructure management.
9. Ability to influence technical strategy and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
10. Track record of shipping high-impact software features.
    
    

Nice to have:

1. Experience in microservices or service-oriented architectures.
2. Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker Kubernetes).
3. Experience in observability monitoring and performance tuning.
4. Knowledge of security best practices and compliance in software systems.
5. Background in SaaS or enterprise software platforms.
