Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Surgical unit provides skilled nursing care to patients with a focus on cardiac monitoring emergency response and various gastrointestinal genitourinary/renal IV therapy medication and respiratory needs. The RN will work collaboratively within the department and must be proficient in Cerner charting.

Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to medical-surgical patients.
- Perform cardiac monitoring and respond to emergencies.
- Manage patients with gastrointestinal needs including colostomy and feeding tube care.
- Provide care for patients with genitourinary/renal conditions including pre/post hemodialysis management.
- Administer IV therapy and perform phlebotomy including accessing ports administering blood products and managing central and peripheral lines.
- Administer medications including heparin insulin and PCA.
- Manage patients with respiratory needs including CPAP/BiPAP high flow nasal cannula and tracheostomy care.
- Implement isolation precautions and provide wound care including wound vac management.
- Document patient care in Cerner.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical experience.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or in the application process with ETA.
- BLS certification.
- Experience with Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response (Telemetry Rapid Response Teams).
- Experience with Gastrointestinal Case Skills (Colostomy Care Feeding Tube Care).
- Experience with Genitourinary/Renal Case Skills (Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management Renal Failure).
- Experience with IV Therapy/Phlebotomy Skills (Accessing Ports Blood Product Administration Central Line Blood Draw Peripheral Line Care PICC Line Management Starting IVs).
- Experience with Medication Skills (Heparin Insulin PCA).
- Experience with Respiratory Case Skills (CPAP/BiPAP High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) Nasal Cannula Non-invasive Airway Management Oral Suctioning Oxygen Face Masks Portable Oxygen Tank Tracheostomy Management).
- Knowledge of Isolation Precautions and Wound Care/Wound Vac.
- Cerner experience.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- None specified.
Special Considerations:
- Will work every other weekend.
- Must wear blue black or gray scrubs.
- Parking permit required no cost.
- Level II Trauma Center.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without pay.
Scheduling:
- 4x12 or 3x12 hour night shifts (1800-0630).
- Open to discussing block schedules with the manager.
