Job Description:

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a talented and highly motivated part-time Data Center and Logistics Specialist Intern to join the Data Center and Logistics unit within UFIT for 2026 (Spring Summer and Fall 2026 semesters). This year-long paid internship is designed to provide students currently enrolled in college an opportunity to learn practical skills and gain experience to propel them into a successful career in Information intern will assist with performing duties related to operating and maintaining the universitys data center facilities.

Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other dedicated employees focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Floridas innovative and inspirational community.

The UFIT Data Center and Logistics team is responsible for maintaining all the universitys data center and communication infrastructure building facilities including HVAC building power and building maintenance fleet management procurement assistance and inventory control.

Student interns are expected to participate in all team responsibilities. This position will primarily report to the Space Science and Research Building on main campus with additional work duties at the UF Data Center located on UFs East Campus on Waldo Rd. (State vehicle are used when needed). Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs. A minimum of 12 hours per week is requested with maximum of 20.

Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:

  • Server installation and removal
  • Fiber and copper cabling installation and certification
  • IT documentation administration
  • Inventory control
  • HVAC monitoring and maintenance
  • 3-Phase power monitoring and management

Some key learning outcomes for the student intern are:

  • Gaining a better understanding of data centers
  • Learning how the individual infrastructure components contribute to overall functions
  • Learning how the data center supports the universitys operation

The areas covered during daily operation include but are not limited to:

  • The differences between cable testers and certifiers and how they work
  • Proper copper and fiber optic network cable installation and handling techniques
  • Data center and campus based LAN network topology and technologies
  • Storage and virtualization concepts
  • Data center capacity planning

The intern will also have the opportunity to learn about the procurement and inventory control processes.

Expected Salary:

$15.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will possess the following education experience and skills:

  • IT related field of study preferred
  • Good organizational skills
  • Self starter good at working independently with instruction
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools
  • Experience working in a professional environment
  • Works well individually and as a part of a team
Special Instructions to Applicants:

A Level 2 Criminal Background Screening is required

A valid Florida drivers license is needed

Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs

A minimum of 12 hours per week is requested with maximum of 20 hours per week
