The Distribution Engineer 1 under close supervision provides the timely delivery of distribution engineering plans by designing planning and reviewing calculations for 23KV and below. Ensure that distribution designs meet all applicable federal state local and engineering codes including but not limited to NESC NEC IEEE and ANSI escalating issues as necessary. Work with various departments to ensure that new business and work plan projects are delivered on time.
Location: Hybrid at Woods Run Complex in PIttsburgh PA
Responsibilities
1. For all projects assigned: plan engineer design maintain prepare and review estimates permits schedules construction orders specifications quotes proposals drawings license applications. For engineering projects associated with area and level of expertise including distribution standards/materials and maintenance ensure sound engineering principles are employed and in accordance with all applicable codes (NESC NEC ANSI IEEE) and federal state local codes.
2. Performs moderately technical pole loading/guying calculations cable pulling calculations and transformer loading studies.
3. Consults with and receives advice from superiors peers and vendors to become thoroughly familiar with an assignment and to obtain necessary design and cost information. Working closely with more experienced engineers act as a Project Manager for assigned projects.
4. Work with Distribution Designers to ensure that overhead underground and subtransmission engineering designs are engineered according to Duquesne Light and NESC Standards obtaining guidance and advice for more complex issues Review the Distribution Designers material and cost estimates. Attend customer project site meetings.
5. Become an NEC and NESC well versed on OH and UG distribution design
Education/Experience Required:
Required: Four-year Bachelor Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university required.
This may be an entry level engineering role with zero (0) years experience required.
Physical Requirements:
Work location is a combination of home office environment and field work. Desk and computer work is required. Must possess valid drivers license and be able to drive to various company locations.
Scope:
Responsibilities are generally tactical and basic in nature however work may vary in type and complexity requiring the incumbent to be flexible to adjust to the given situation. Primary focus is on daily deliverables and outputs while at the same time developing a knowledge of the broader context in which the work is being performed.
Decision Impact:
Independent discretion or decision making capability is mostly limited. There is normally a general framework of established boundaries to help employees perform their roles and make decisions. Situation that require deviation form this general framework are typically not made alone. The employee may recommend a solution however the recommendations are frequently presented to their manager or more senior level professionals for review and approval prior to the decision being made.
Hybrid Work:
Position follows our hybrid work model with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
Storm Roles:
All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position as duties can vary across the Company.
