Have you worked with individuals experiencing vision loss or barriers to independent living If so we are looking for you here at the Eugene office for the Oregon Commission for the Blind! Home to the University of Oregon Eugene has a vibrant arts community and is known as Track Town USA; hosting national and international track and field events. Eugene is in the southern Willamette Valley of western Oregon 60 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and about the same distance west of the Cascade Mountains. The Willamette Valley is also Oregons leading wine region and recognized as one of the worlds premier Pinot Noir producing areas.

As a Rehabilitation Instructor for the Blind you will report to the Director of Independent Living of the Oregon Commission for the Blind (OCB.) This position is one of nine Rehabilitation Instructors in the Independent Living Department as a whole and one of four OCB staff working from the Eugene office. This essential work helps seniors and individuals who experience vision loss acquire essential adaptive skills so that they may remain independent in their homes and active in their communities. By providing in-home services the client does not have to travel to their lessons but instead receives them in their home environment where services are tailored to their specific needs. This position primarily works with clients in the Independent Living program however there is some component of working with persons in the Vocational Rehabilitation program.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree with an emphasis in any vision related field from an accredited university OR

  • Bachelors degree or certification with an emphasis in any vision related field from an accredited university OR

  • Masters or Bachelors degree in Education Special Education or a Social or Behavioral Science and two years of experience working with individuals experiencing vision loss or barriers to independent living; OR

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preference Statement:

Preference will be given to those with a Credential Bachelor or Masters degree in Orientation and Mobility Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind/Visually Impaired CLVT or CVRT.

Desired Attributes:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

  • Excellent organizational skills strong time management skills and commitment to attending to detail.

  • Demonstrated experience working with seniors and adults who experience multiple barriers to independent living.

  • Exceptional analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teammates and build positive professional relationships with leadership peers clients and other shareholders outside of our organization.

  • Case Management experience.

Please note: that this position is currently under reclassification from a Rehabilitation Instructor for the Blind to the higher paid Rehabilitation Instructor for the Blind Specialist (Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist SR26 $5066.00-$7774.00.) The successful candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for the higher classification by the time of offer will be placed into the higher classification.
