Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Collections Systems and Services the User Services Coordinator provides support to students faculty staff and visitors and plays a key role in the daily operations of the College Library. This position supports a wide range of library services.

The User Services Coordinator supports the general operations of the Librarys Information Desk and the Critical Making Studio. Responsibilities include coordinating and supporting the work of User Services Student Assistants and Critical Making Studio Producers assisting with routine tasks such as circulation materials retrieval and reshelving basic technology troubleshooting and the use of specialized makerspace equipment. The Coordinator will contribute to special projects such as collection inventory stack maintenance and space shifting.

In addition the User Services Coordinator monitors the building reports maintenance concerns to Facilities Management and communicates any safety or security issues to Campus Safety. This position may require opening or closing the library in the absence of full-time staff or student assistants and ensuring consistent delivery of services during evenings and weekends.

Job Duties

  • 45% - Coordinate and deliver customer service to the College Librarys Information Desk for students faculty staff and visitors. Support the circulation of library materials including books and technology by managing check-in/check-out processes processing hold requests and troubleshooting user issues. Provide front-line technical support for library technologies and equipment. Perform clerical and data entry tasks related to user services operations. During their shift they may serve as a primary point of contact for library users interpreting and communicating library policies and procedures. Interact with campus visitors especially during evenings and weekends when other campus offices are closed. Provide support across all User Services programs and operations as needed. - (Essential)
  • 35% - Assist students faculty staff and guests in utilizing the Critical Making Studio the Colleges makerspace. Provide troubleshooting and guidance on a variety of specialized equipment including audio/video recording devices 3D printers scanners button-makers sewing machines and vinyl cutters. Help maintain a safe and accessible environment by ensuring equipment is used properly and policies are followed. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Monitor and report safety and security issues within the library building. Execute building opening and closing procedures including unlocking/locking doors adjusting lighting and ensuring safe entry and exit for patrons. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in a customer service role preferably in a library or other public-facing setting.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint) Google
    drives/folders/forms Adobe Acrobat Web Editing and social media applications or any
    combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in fields related to position responsibilities.
  • Library experience or equivalent work experience that demonstrates familiarity with relevant services practices and technologies used in an academic library setting. Familiarity with specialized technology including 3D printers audio and video recording equipment CNC machines and other tools commonly found in makerspaces.

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE:$18.00/hr to $20.00/hr
