Position Summary
The Plant EHS Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day environmental health and safety functions at an assigned fully onsite manufacturing and production facility.
This role implements the organizations safety program works with personnel to maintain a safe and healthy work environment and monitors the facility and processes for adherence to OSHA EPA state DOT and other local regulations and guidelines. This position is responsible for the elimination of industrial incidents conducting environmental monitoring and reporting providing assistance with environmental permit applications and assisting with internal EHS audits. Working closely with cross-functional teams this role leads the pursuit of zero incidents and ensures all environmental regulatory compliance functions are conducted in conformance with all applicable laws permits and regulations while maximizing the use of industry best practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the primary hazardous waste engineer leading efforts to reduce hazardous waste and implement recycling programs. Direct industrial hygiene sampling and support.
Manage the facility SDS/Hazard Communication program.
Manage and perform the planning training inspection reporting and recordkeeping requirements for all environmental and safety compliance programs.
Provide engaging environmental health and safety leadership to facility employees and lead training efforts.
Lead Executive and Employee Safety Committees and act as the facility champion for the EHS Drive to Zero program.
Develop and support strategic initiatives designed to produce best-in-class EHS performance.
Conduct audits to ensure consistent compliance preparing reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
Conduct and document monthly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation/chemical storage areas.
Perform Job Safety Analysis of all worksite activities and lead actions for controls and countermeasures.
Lead safety observation efforts and perform ergonomic and safety risk assessments for product and process capability.
Lead the identification assessment and resolution of ergonomic issues including physical part validation.
Investigate incidents (including injuries property damage near misses releases and losses) to determine root causes and prepare/direct corrective and preventive action plans.
Act as facility champion for the implementation of risk reduction controls.
Minimize waste by driving initiatives surrounding reduction recycling and supply chain partnerships.
Manage an EHS Specialist as a direct report depending on the size of the facility.
Travel between facilities as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
5 years of progressive EHS experience.
3 years of implementation experience with safety-related programs.
Management experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters in Business Administration Engineering or an EHS-related field.
Experience within a manufacturing environment (Industrial manufacturing experience with electrical safe work Hazwaste crane hoist and rigging is ideal).
CHMM CSP CIH or PE Certification.
Experience preparing semi-annual and annual environmental reports (e.g. Tier II emission inventory hazardous waste TRI air permit monitoring etc.).
Knowledge Skills & Ability
Demonstrated understanding of OSHA EPA state DOT and local regulations.
Proven knowledge of safety equipment and standards and excellent working knowledge of ergonomic analysis tools.
Demonstrated ability to influence management teams and individuals across multiple functions.
Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to train/present to an executive-level audience.
