Who we are
Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time overseeing and evolving Ontarios electricity market engaging with government municipalities and Indigenous communities and planning for Ontarios future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation protecting the system from threats advancing the provinces energy conservation programs and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources well need in the decades to come.
This role is a part of the Markets and Reliability Business Unit within the Market and Sector Evolution team. This is a union job.

The successful candidate will lead and support research and analysis to identify and address technical structural and policy challenges in Ontarios electricity sector contributing to the design of competitive market solutions that enable system reliability innovation and sector transformation.
What youll do
In this role youll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the interplay between real-time system operations and electricity markets and contribute to identifying how evolving system needs can be addressed through market enhancements.
Contribute to the assessment and design of competitive approaches for acquiring evolving and enabling novel services and products to meet Ontarios electricity and broader energy needs.
Support senior staff and management in developing solutions for sector transformation including (but not limited to) decarbonization integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and other emerging technologies into Ontarios markets and reliability operations.
Maintain current knowledge of market theory energy trading methods and technological advancements. This includes regular review of academic technical and financial literature to inform market and sector evolution work.
In a typical day you will
Investigate how electricity markets and systems in other jurisdictions are enabling new technologies services and business models. Identify lessons and insights applicable to Ontarios evolving market and operational landscape.
Conduct data-driven analytical research using both quantitative and qualitative methods to inform market evolution policy development and strategic decision-making.
Conduct research analysis and provide recommendations that address emerging challenges and opportunities facing the electricity sector (e.g. with regards to consumer-level demand for electricity generation energy efficiency solutions and other interactions with energy sector agents)
Monitor and assess evolving energy sector policies and frameworks and identify their implications for market design operations and sector transformation in Ontario.
Review regulatory decisions in Ontario and other jurisdictions to assess potential implications for Ontarios electricity market. Synthesize findings and propose integration strategies within market development plans.
Respond to internal and external stakeholder feedback on market evolution initiatives ensuring perspectives are considered in the evolution of Ontarios electricity market.
Represent the Division or the IESO as assigned on committees task forces and in various forums. Present findings and recommendations related to market development initiatives to internal and external audiences.
Perform other duties and tasks as required to support the teams objectives and the IESOs strategic direction.
