ROLE
The Stations Specialist will ensure that all substation construction and maintenance activities comply with technical standards safety regulations and approved designs. The Station Specialist will review drawings conduct onsite inspections document progress and work closely with contractors to identify and resolve any deficiencies playing a crucial role in delivering safe and reliable station infrastructure.
KEY DUTIES
- Create and refine stationspecific inspection checklists forms and processes to address gaps identified during routine audits.
- Review civil and electrical station drawings before preconstruction meetings to pinpoint potential constructability and compliance issues.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings to identify critical station construction and installation tasks (e.g. foundation pours for transformers bus support framing grounding grid layout).
- Conduct audits of station construction and maintenance activities to verify adherence to utility standards industry rules & requirements and occupational health & safety regulations; immediately report serious infractions and initiate stopwork if necessary.
- Ensure that all station work complies with approved drawings technical specifications and applicable regulations (e.g. O. Reg. 22/04 or equivalent jurisdictional codes).
- Confirm that installed materials match the approved bill of materials.
- Maintain a daily station site log that records activities fielddriven changes and photographic evidence of critical tasks. Follow the changeorder process to capture scope deviations.
- Review and accept asbuilt civil and electrical station drawings prepared by contractors and ensure they accurately reflect field conditions.
- Witness and document testing and commissioning hold points (e.g. relay calibration ground grid testing insulation resistance testing transformer oil sampling) and verify results against approved specifications.
- Audit contractor adherence to public safety protection measures at station sites including energized work zone barriers temporary fencing signage and traffic/pedestrian control as required.
- Verify that equipment nameplates relay IDs and transformer serials are correctly tagged and entered asset management systems in alignment with Hydro requirements.
- Conduct final station inspections to identify construction or maintenance deficiencies and track corrective actions. Coordinate with contractors to resolve issues.
- Review existing station maintenance records and recommend process improvements. Verify that preventive maintenance tasks adhere to technical standards.
- Deliver ondemand updates to project stakeholders including daily logs inspection reports changeorder summaries and photographic documentation. Maintain organized records for each station project.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician 442A Power System Electrician Certified Engineering Technologist.
- Protection and Control Technician/Technologist or EDA Substation Electrician.
- Knowledge of medium/high voltage transformer stations and electrical distribution systems
- Knowledge of OHSA EUSR utility standards Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and utility construction practices UWPC
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital field reporting tools (e.g. GIS field data collection apps)
- Effective communication and report writing skills
- Valid G-Class Ontario drivers license with clean abstract
