The Role

About the Role

As an Electro-Mechanical Engineer at HII Newport News Shipbuilding youll play a critical role in the design development integration and maintenance of complex mechanical and electrical systems that power the U.S. Navys fleet. This position supports all stages of ship design and construction from concept development through testing and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Design develop and integrate electro-mechanical systems including propulsion power generation automation and control systems.

Develop system and subsystem requirements specifications and interface control documents.

Support system modeling simulation and analysis to ensure design performance meets program requirements.

Perform calculations design reviews and engineering analyses for mechanical and electrical components.

Prepare technical documentation schematics and engineering drawings in accordance with military and shipyard standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical electrical controls and structural) to ensure seamless integration of systems.

Troubleshoot test and validate system functionality during assembly installation and ship trials.

Provide technical support to production operations and test teams throughout construction and commissioning phases.

Ensure compliance with safety quality and environmental standards.

Applies electrical electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems including assembly analysis and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design test modification fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.

Must Have

Bachelors Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Masters Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Nice to have:

The preferred candidate would be one that is interested in both mechanical and electrical aspects of controls systems.

Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles system integration and control systems.

Knowledge of CAD tools and electrical design software.

Ability to read and develop mechanical and electrical schematics and technical drawings.

DOD Security Clearance is preferred but not required to start
