SUMMARY:The Behavior classroom teacher is a licensed teacher responsible for creating a structured supportive learning environment to help students with emotional and behavioral disorders develop coping strategies and prosocial behaviors while meeting academic goals.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:Exempt Position; Full-time; 10 month position per school year.
SIGN ON BONUS:$2500.00 Paid out in 2 installments.
QUALIFICATIONS:NC Teaching License in Middle Grades (Any Area) required.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
Education: A bachelors degree is required.
Certification/Licensure: A valid NC teaching certification or license in special education and/or regular education.
Experience: Prior experience working with children who have emotional and behavioral challenges is preferred.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Patience empathy and emotional regulation when handling stressful situations. Analytical skills to assess behavior patterns and determine effective interventions. Organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and planning. Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment. Physical ability to perform job functions safely including potentially physically restraining students if necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction and Curriculum: Adapt general education lessons and provide individualized or small-group instruction to meet the academic needs of students with disabilities. Focus often includes a mix of academics social skills and potentially life skills or vocational training.
Behavior Management: Implement evidence-based behavior management strategies such as positive reinforcement de-escalation techniques and structured routines to help students develop self-control.
Assessment and Planning: Conduct behavioral assessments including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. psychologists social workers general education teachers) to develop implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and summarize behavioral data to track student progress assess the effectiveness of interventions and make data-driven instructional decisions.
Crisis Intervention: Manage and de-escalate behavioral outbursts and crisis situations in a constructive professional and safe manner which may involve physical management techniques (often requiring specific training like Crisis Prevention Intervention - CPI).
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely and collaboratively with general education teachers parents administrators and other support staff to ensure consistent support across all settings and to promote family involvement.
Professional Development: Provide professional development and coaching to other school staff on behavior management techniques and positive behavior interventions.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain detailed and accurate records and ensure all procedures and documentation comply with federal state and local laws and regulations (e.g. IDEA restraint and seclusion reporting).
DUTIES:Responsible for instructional program as outlined in the NC Standard Course of Study (Common Core/Essential Standards); normal duties of a classroom teacher; other duties that may be assigned by the principal and/or superintendent.
