The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Marylands $49 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers and insurance professionals compliance with State law. Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers and other public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life health automobile homeowners and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.
* This is a Special Appointment position that serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.
This position willstaff the consumer outreach efforts throughout the state and assists withresponding to consumer questions received by the Consumer Education andAdvocacy Unit.
The MIAs Consumer Education and Advocacy Unit (CEAU) isrecruiting for the position of Outreach Staffer I position is responsible for attending and staffingoutreach events that includes many evenings and weekends; assisting with theoperation of the CEAU Rapid Response Program; and handling disaster response forthose insured in the State of Maryland. This position may requireIn-statetravel that includes overnight stays at least two nights per month. Inaddition this position will provide consumers with assistance related to alllines of insurance insurance laws and regulationsand assist inidentifying outreach opportunities scheduling events and networking withpotential agency partners.
This position will assist with the creation of content forbrochures videos social media posts and other consumer materials for use onthe MIA website and at outreach events. Possession of a vehicle and validdrivers license is required for extensive in-state travel. This positioninvolves special physical demands such as the ability to lift 50 plus poundsclimb ladders lift and set up supplies and exhibits.
Outreach Staffer I
Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited collegeor university.
Experience: Six months of experience performing marketing oroutreach related functions.

Outreach Staffer II
Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited collegeor university.
Experience: One year of experience as an Outreach Staffer I.

1. A high school diploma or GED and three years of experience inthe insurance industry as an agent customer service representative claimsadjuster underwriter or related experience may substitute for the minimumrequirements.
2. A high school diploma or GED and three years of experienceperforming marketing or outreach related functions may substitute for theminimum requirements.
3. A high school diploma or GED and three years of experienceworking at the Maryland Insurance Administration in a position that requiresknowledge understanding and interpretation of Maryland insurance laws maysubstitute for the minimum requirements.
Outreach Staffer III
Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited collegeor university.
Experience: One year of experience as an Outreach StafferII.

Employees in this classification are required to travel tocomplete work and should possess a motor vehicle operators license valid inthe State of Maryland.
