Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides evaluations to formulate individualized exercise prescriptions at entry follow-up exit and annual reviews.
  • Makes accurate observations regarding the patients response to exercise.
  • Collaborates with staff to assess the appropriateness of exercise prescriptions.
  • Monitors daily exercise sessions evaluating physiologic responses and teaching safe effective exercise techniques.
  • Accurately recognizes and interprets EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias.
  • Organizes and leads group exercise classes focused on cardiac risk factor education.
  • Follows policies to implement progression or termination of exercise sessions.
  • Reports abnormal responses and seeks consultation when needed.
  • Provides verbal and written communication with participants families and physicians.
  • Educates participants using national guidelines (ACSM AACVPR AHA SJHA).
  • Participates in staff orientation and oversees training of exercise physiologists students and interns.
  • Shares field insights and assists in planning program components (cardio strength education).
  • Coordinates with departmental and hospital staff for operational efficiency.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement processes.
  • Coordinates cleaning and quarterly calibration of exercise equipment.
  • Manages maintenance and orientation for strength training equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Travel: Some travel may be required between supporting locations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in exercise science exercise physiology or kinesiology required.
  • At least two years of experience in cardiac rehab (may include internship).
  • Basic Life Saver (BLS) 2. Current ACLS certification or completion within 1 year of employment.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills conflict resolution skills and adult teaching /education skills.
  • Demonstrates understanding and support of best practices based on ACSM AACVPR and AHA guidelines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in the field of Exercise Science (MS MA or MEd) preferred.
  • Exercise Specialist certification or ACSM certification preferred.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs. 0-33% of the work day (occasionally) Lifting 25 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking Occasional sitting Close eye work (computers typing reading writing) Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Factors affecting environmental conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock Floor Surfaces Hot/Cold Temperatures Indoor/Outdoor conditions Latex Lighting Patient care/handling injuries Radiation Shift work Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment including respirators environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
