GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for overseeing the individual health needs of students while being transported to and from school; reporting emergency situations to bus driver; administering medication; and supervising students on extra-curricular trips.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Administer first aid medication and specialized medical treatments providing appropriate care for ill medically fragile and/or other students.
- Assess situations involving students other health related issues identifying problems referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
- Assist special education and/or medically fragile students and other passengers providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
- Maintain students confidential files and records providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
- Monitor students with special needs until released to teacher instructional assistant or parent ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
- Participate in a variety of meetings workshops and seminars in order to gather convey and/or share information regarding students health needs service delivery and educational programs; and/or improving skills and knowledge.
- Prepare reports documenting activities providing written reference conveying information and/or complying with established guidelines.
- Report observations and/or incidents communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
- Respond to emergency medical situations ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention and related follow-up action.
- Secure students and/or their equipment ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Community College and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area or Associates degree from an accredited community college college or university.
- Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Certificates Licenses and Other Special Requirements
- CPR Certificate
- First Aid Certificate
- State of Missouri Nursing License
- Ability to successfully complete QStraint Certification (provided by District)
- Ability to successfully complete CPI training (provided by the District)
- Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance the results of which must be satisfactory to the District required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry; read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues draw conclusions and create action plans.
- Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include health standards and hazards; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; knowledge of community resources; and treatment modalities.
- Skill to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
- Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including planning and managing projects; and using pertinent software applications; adhering to safety practices and procedures; administer first aid and/or prescribed medications.
- Ability to read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions.

- Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work environment is primarily indoors where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
- The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes express or exchange ideas by the spoken word substantial movements (motions) with the hands wrists and/or fingers and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
