The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC - South Floridas only NCI-Designated Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Associate Scientist to work at the UHealth campus in Miami Fl.

Department Specific Functions

Manages new projects from initiation to completion independently. Operates sophisticated scientific equipment without supervision. Develops and tests new procedures or applications with minimal supervision. Able to learn complex techniques and train other staff and users in SR applications. Follows SOPs (Standard Operating Protocols). Reviews laboratory results and updates project tracking using appropriate lab notebook or online tools. Displays excellent record keeping skills for all laboratory work and client interactions. Evaluates inventory communicate needs place orders and verify receipts. Assists in performing QA/QC and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Works independently with vendors and Field Application Scientists for troubleshooting instrument maintenance and new workflow development. Possess the computational skills necessary to acquire proficiency in new software programs cloud-based tools online webforms and databases. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods techniques and developments within the area of research. Contributes to the preparation of scientific publications and presentations as request. Assists in ensuring the lab adheres to regulatory policies.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Scientist SOM supports the Universitys research goals and objectives by performing laboratory experiments in his/her areas of interest expertise or assignment. Moreover the incumbent performs various analytical procedures involving method development and application development and synthesis.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Contributes to basic and applied research activities including authorship of scientific publications technical and agency reports and patent preparations.
2. Publishes in refereed journals in collaboration with department leadership or independently.
3. Supervises research employees and non-exempt staff.
4. Writes extramural proposals with approval of senior managing staff.
5. Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results.
6. Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.
7. Provides ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researchers supervisors and other relevant staff.
8. Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s).
9. Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.
10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Doctorate degree - Philosophy (PhD) required

Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
