Linn Moor Campus is a unique multi-generational approach to community-based care for individuals with learning disabilities and other additional support needs in a residential setting. The campus itself is situated on beautiful grounds allowing our service users the freedom to enjoy the outdoors. With UK wide recognition for our pioneering work with people with autism our focus is on the development of meaningful life skills and personal fulfilment for the children and young adults we support. If successful you would be joining a large team of enthusiastic support workers with a wealth of experience from all different backgrounds.

We are looking for a qualified Occupational Therapist toprovide OT assessment evaluation & support within the Linn Moor Campus Peterculter. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in partnership with education staff care staff and other therapy services. This role will be working 35 hours per week and can be worked flexibly across the weekdays.

Salary: 38072.38 p.a.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To provide occupational therapy assessment intervention & evaluation for those identified as needing such support. There is scope to be involved in and (depending on experience) lead quality improvement projects as this might make incentivise an applicant
  • To develop & evaluate intervention strategies for individual students/adults who are referred for occupational therapy & who present difficulties with development in any of the following areas: self-help skills motor co-ordination social development and/or sensory processing displaying complex and challenging behaviours; especially where these affect participation and performance in class-based or care-based settings. To manage a caseload of individuals on the campus with identified occupational therapy needs maintaining sensitivity to the emotional & communicative needs of clients/carers especially when imparting complex information.
  • To provide direct and indirect intervention for individual or small groups by clearly defining aims and/or objectives relating to the individuals occupational therapy needs.
  • To demonstrate skills in motivating and engaging both individuals and parents/carers in the occupational therapy process.
  • To liaise with parents/carers Education Health & Social Care staff as well as other multi-disciplinary colleagues as appropriate. Such liaison will include the assessment & design of intervention techniques which are evidence- based.
  • To contribute appropriately to the school curriculum Individual Education Plans Individual Care Plans & Coordinated Support Plans as appropriate.
  • To attend relevant multi-disciplinary meetings providing relevant Occupational Therapy expertise.
  • To demonstrate effective communication (verbal & written).
  • To offer relevant training to staff other professionals students and parents/carers modifying training packages according to the needs of the training participants.
  • To develop and maintain the skills and knowledge base commensurate with the delivery of specialist occupational therapy in child residential settings including up-to-date knowledge of appropriate screening techniques assessments interventions and multi-disciplinary working.
  • To undertake any other tasks from time to time provided they are reasonable and within the postholders capabilities.


Qualifications/Training/Education:

  • Degree/Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with SSSC
  • Interested in working with individuals with complex additional support needs (e.g. autism learning difficulties etc.) and mental health challenges would be beneficial


Experience:

  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Other Job Requirements:

To comply with the registration and qualification requirements as laid down by Allied Professionals HPC and to strictly adhere to their Codes of Practice.

Ability to work in an environment with young people who demonstrate challenging behaviour.

Ability to respond effectively to challenging behaviour through the use of Behavioural Support Strategies (BSS) following VSA standards and procedures (training will be provided).

Implementation of communication learning & relationship strategies such as Intensive Interaction TEACCH PECs Makaton etc.

There is capacity to express creativity and work with the leadership team to craft this role depending on the candidates interests and experiences.
