About the Role

Employment Type:Permanent Full Time

Hours: Flexible weekdays weeknights weekends public holidays as required

Life Without Barriers is proud to deliver the new Staying on Track program part of the Queensland Governments Making Queensland Safe plan. Staying on Track supports young people aged 1017 leaving detention to successfully return to their families and communities.

The program provides intensive tailored support focussed on reducing re-offending and building positive pathways through education training employment cultural and community connections.

This is an identified role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. As a Youth Advocate you will provide culturally safe and strengths-based mentoring coaching and outreach support to young people including both Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous youth who are leaving detention and working to rebuild their lives.

You will play a key role in:

  • Providing cultural support and leadership to young people and colleagues
  • Building positive relationships and re-establishing cultural identity and connection
  • Developing Individual Support Plans tailored to the strengths needs and aspirations of young people
  • Advocating for young peoples voices to be heard and respected across services and systems
  • Supporting young people to engage in education employment training and community programs
  • Promoting self-determination healing and resilience

Skills & Experience

  • Lived experience with strong cultural knowledge and community connection
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in Youth Justice with willingness to complete further training.
  • Experience supporting young people coaching role modelling and developing plans to achieve goals.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with clients families and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel for outreach support.
  • Commitment to completing required induction and training including Basic Advocacy Training (BAT).
  • Current Driver Licence
  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check Queensland Blue Card Working with Children Check and Licence Care Service Check.
