Position Summary
The EMS Trainer provides instruction and hands-on training for McHenry County Colleges Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program supporting student preparation for certification and professional growth. This role promotes educational excellence through effective teaching collaboration and engagement across various class settings and schedules.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Including but are not limited to:
- Provides instruction in the EMS program offered through McHenry County College under the oversight of the McHenry Western Lake County EMS System for the purpose of eligibility for initial licensure continuing education and professional growth in accordance with IDPH Rules and Regulations and the National EMS Education Standards
- Teaches skills labs in accordance with the National EMS Education Standards and the IDPH requirement for certification/licensure at EMR EMT or Paramedic scope of practice
- Available to teach daytime evening or weekend classes as needed
- Available to teach at various locations throughout McHenry County where EMS classes are held
- Available for student conferences either before or after class and by College email if necessary
- Work cooperatively within the department the division and throughout the College in striving for educational excellence
- Conduct regular assessment of student learning
- Utilize a variety of teaching styles to satisfy the different learning styles of students
- Physical ability to perform functional requirements of the position.
Required Qualifications
- Illinois Licensed EMT Paramedic or Registered Nurse
- CPR for Healthcare Provider
- Ability to obtain current EMS System Protocol Competency
- 3 years experience providing direct patient care in the prehospital Emergency Department or Critical Care setting
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth especially regarding contemporary expertisespecific to assigned teaching content
- Commitment to the mission of the community college and to teaching and motivating community college students in ways appropriate to their diverse backgrounds and learning styles
- Strong communication organization interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Adheres to policy/procedure and safety standards of McHenry County College and the McHenry Western Lake County EMS System.
