The Position
The Adler Planetarium is seeking an Interim CFO to join our dynamic team on Chicagos Museum Campus. This Executive Leader will manage the financial activities of the Adler Planetarium and oversee internal operating support areas including facilities human resources accounting information technology and grant management. This individual will also be responsible for:
Working with Executive Team colleagues to establish the organizational strategy and evaluate progress against strategic goals; advising the CEO on the financial impact of strategic options.
Overseeing the annual budgeting process collaborating departments and Executive Team. Discuss and inform Adler Trustees particularly members of the Finance Committee
Executing other responsibilities as they arise including contract review financial and trend analysis institutional operating and capital budget planning and oversight and cash forecasting indirect cost rate negotiation and vendor and union negotiations.
The Work Schedule
The typical work schedule for this position is 35 hours per week from 9 AM to 5 PM with a flextime and telecommuting option.A commitment through May 2026 is required.
The Compensation & Benefits (Full-Time)
Base Pay Range: $230000-$242700/yr

The Person
This person will have excellent attention to detail capacity to multi-task and strong communication skills with the ability to connect and explain complex financial details to line staff through to Board Trustees. Comfort with learning quickly and making timely decisions is highly valued. Willingness to be hands-on in analyzing data and developing communications.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
Minimum ten (10) years progressive experience in financial management and strategic oversight
Knowledge of best practices in financial controls and reporting institutional policies and procedures
Two of more years working at the executive level and interacting with Board members
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree preferably in Accounting Finance Economics Master of Business Administration
Previous experience as an interim hire
Previous experience at a nonprofit organization or with nonprofit accounting
